Grade Calculator

Calculate your current grade from weighted categories and see what you need on remaining work to reach a target. It can also estimate what score you need on remaining work (including a final exam) to reach a target grade.

How to use it

  • Add grade items with a score and a weight (percent of the final grade).
  • Make sure weights add up to the portion of the course that’s graded so far.
  • Optionally set a target grade to see what you need on remaining weight.
  • Review your current weighted grade and target-needed estimate.

Key formulas

Weighted average
Current grade = Σ(score × weight) / Σ(weight)
Scores and weights are expressed in percent terms.
Needed on remaining work (target)
Needed = (target × 100 − currentContribution) / remainingWeight
Where currentContribution = Σ(score × weight) and remainingWeight = 100 − Σ(weight).

FAQ

For a complete course model, yes. But during a term, you can enter only graded items so far; the remaining weight represents future assignments/final exam.

You can convert points to a percent for each item (earned ÷ possible × 100), then use that percent as the score.

That’s likely an input error. Weights should represent portions of the final grade and typically should not exceed 100%.

Yes, if the final exam weight is part of the remaining weight. Use a target grade and ensure remaining weight reflects the final’s percent.

Some systems drop lowest scores, curve grades, use category caps, or apply different rounding rules. Treat this as an estimate and check your syllabus.
